Lollapalooza: Four Days on the Chicago Lakefront

Lollapalooza is one of the world's premier music festivals, billed as "four days of the world's best music under the iconic Chicago skyline." Held annually in Grant Park along Lake Michigan, the festival draws crowds of up to 500,000 people across its four days, featuring 170-plus artists across eight stages spanning electronic, hip-hop, indie rock, pop and alternative music. The 2026 edition returns to Grant Park July 30 through August 2, produced by C3 Presents.

History

Lollapalooza was created in 1991 by Jane's Addiction frontman Perry Farrell as a multi-city farewell tour for the band, helping bring alternative music to a mainstream audience with early bills featuring acts like Nine Inch Nails and Ice-T. After its touring years, the festival was reworked as a destination event in Chicago's Grant Park in 2005, and expanded from three days to four in 2016. It has since grown into a global brand with international editions, while the Chicago flagship remains its anchor.

The 2026 Lineup

The 2026 festival is headlined by Charli XCX, The Smashing Pumpkins, Lorde, John Summit, Olivia Dean, Tate McRae, The Chainsmokers and The xx. Day by day, Lorde and John Summit lead Thursday; Charli XCX and the Smashing Pumpkins headline Friday; Olivia Dean, JENNIE and Tate McRae top Saturday; and The Chainsmokers and The xx close the festival. The bill also includes Lil Uzi Vert, Turnstile, Sombr, The Neighbourhood, Yungblud, Beabadoobee, Ethel Cain, Empire of the Sun and Major Lazer, among more than 150 artists. The 2026 edition marks a notable K-pop presence: JENNIE of BLACKPINK becomes the first female Korean soloist to headline Lollapalooza, alongside first-time festival appearances from i-dle and aespa and the U.S. festival debut of CORTIS. Disney+ and Hulu will livestream all four days, and official late-night aftershows run at more than 25 Chicago venues.

Community Impact

Community engagement is central to the festival's identity. In 2026, Lollapalooza awarded Chicago Public Schools a $1.7 million grant—one of the largest arts-education awards the district has received—to be distributed over five years, split between the All-City Performing Arts after-school program and the Lollapalooza Arts Education Fund; the district expects the investment to reach more than 40,000 students across 150-plus schools. Through its ongoing partnership with the nonprofit Ingenuity and the Lollapalooza Arts Education Fund, the festival has committed $3.3 million and awarded 182 grants totaling $1.78 million to 99 CPS schools since the 2021-22 school year.
