A Celebration of Music, Food & Drink

Sommo Festival has established itself as Prince Edward Island's signature summer gathering since its 2023 debut. Held annually at Cavendish Beach Events Centre along the island's scenic North Shore, this two-day festival brings together world-class musicians, celebrated chefs, local flavours, craft beverages, and the warm hospitality the region is known for. The festival's name derives from the musical term meaning "the highest" or "supreme" expression—an ethos reflected in every element of the experience.

A Multi-Stage Musical Experience

The festival features three distinct performance spaces. The Colliding Tides Main Stage showcases internationally recognized headliners, while the Nova 7 Sandbar Stage highlights emerging talent, beloved favourites, and artists from across Atlantic Canada and beyond. For 2026, the main stage welcomes Twenty One Pilots and Natasha Bedingfield alongside established acts like Kaleo, with the Sandbar Stage featuring emerging artists such as Loviet, SonReal, and Crash Adams. Since launching, Sommo has hosted acclaimed artists including Mumford & Sons, Noah Kahan, Hozier, and Alanis Morissette, positioning it as a destination for discovery and unforgettable performances.

A Culinary Stage

What sets Sommo apart is its dedicated commitment to food and drink culture. The Culinary Stage brings renowned chefs for live cooking demonstrations, tastings, and conversations, allowing attendees to experience Prince Edward Island's food scene firsthand. The 2026 lineup includes acclaimed culinary personalities such as Andy Hay, Andrea Buckett, and Dan Clapson. The festival's "Taste of Sommo" offerings celebrate local ingredients with fresh oysters, lobster rolls, wood-fired pizza, local seafood, and gourmet treats. Beyond formal tastings, vendors throughout the grounds serve food and beverages catering to diverse dietary preferences—dairy-free, gluten-free, vegan, and vegetarian options are prominently featured.

Drink Culture & Atmosphere

The festival curates craft beverage experiences with dedicated tasting bars showcasing local craft beer, wine, cider, ready-to-drink cocktails, premium spirits, and non-alcoholic options. The Tequila Bar, Martini Bar, Whiskey Bar, and Bubbly Bar offer elevated social experiences where bartenders craft creative cocktails using local ingredients. This emphasis on drinks and gathering spaces reflects the festival's core mission: capturing the warmth and hospitality of an East Coast summer.

Accessibility & Community

Sommo is recognized as "Fully Accessible" by Access Advisor, providing accessible parking, entrances, golf cart transportation, dedicated viewing platforms with premium main stage views, and accessible washrooms. The festival operates on a cashless grounds system (Interac Debit, credit card, and digital payment accepted), includes free water refill stations, and prohibits smoking, vaping, and cannabis in accordance with Prince Edward Island law. Gates open at noon daily with the festival concluding around 10:45–11:00 p.m., and all ages are welcome. The site acknowledges unceded Mi'kmaq territory and the historic Treaties of Peace and Friendship.

Getting There

Located at 8779 Route 6 behind Avonlea Village, the festival sits centrally between Charlottetown (45 minutes drive) and Summerside (35 minutes drive). Parking is available onsite ($25 per day) and at Tourist Mart ($20 per day). Shuttle services operate from Charlottetown (multiple pickup locations) and Route 6 Ranch Campground, with additional transportation options including taxi services and the ride-share platform Kari.
