The Jackson Metro's Premier Jazz Festival

The Township Jazz Festival originated from jazz sessions at Fusion Coffeehouse that outgrew the small venue's capacity. Co-founders Raphael Semmes and Tripp Douglas launched the inaugural festival on May 30, 2008, with approximately 100 attendees. Over nearly two decades, the event has evolved into a major regional attraction and is celebrated as the only jazz festival in the Jackson metro area dedicated exclusively to jazz.

Diverse Musical Programming

The festival presents a diverse lineup spanning high school jazz bands, collegiate ensembles, professional local groups, and nationally recognized artists. This approach creates opportunities for emerging musicians to share stages with established performers, fostering community connections and musical mentorship. Past headliners include legendary artists such as Mose Allison, Jason Marsalis, Delfeayo Marsalis, Benny Golson, Eddie Henderson, and Nicholas Payton.

2026 Lineup

The 2026 edition features Latin Grammy Award-winning flautist Nestor Torres as the headliner, alongside The Tropicales and local favorites including Madison Central High School Jazz Band, Murrah High School Jazz Band, JSU Jazz Ensemble, The Vamps, The Raphael Semmes Jazz Ensemble, and Southern Komfort. The festival maintains its commitment to combining professional and emerging talent, creating an educational and entertaining experience for all ages.

Festival Experience

Held at The Township at Colony Park in Ridgeland, the festival provides a family-friendly environment with covered seating, food vendors, and a dedicated TrustCare Kids Zone. Attendees are welcome to bring blankets and lawn chairs (no tents permitted), with beer, wine, cocktails, and non-alcoholic beverages available. Food vendor partners include Hal and Mal's, Fusion Coffeehouse, City Box Catering, and Street Dough, ensuring a full festival experience beyond the music.
