Autumn in the Air

Autumn in the Air is Virginia Beach's free fall festival celebration held annually at Mount Trashmore Park. The festival brings together live folk, Americana, and rock music performances in a family-friendly setting that welcomes visitors of all ages to enjoy the season. Organized by Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation, the event combines live entertainment with recreational activities and food options.

Mount Trashmore Park

The festival takes place at Mount Trashmore Park, a notable Virginia Beach landmark created in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation developed Mount Trashmore as an innovative landfill park, transforming 640,000 tons of garbage into a recreational destination. This transformation represents a significant environmental achievement and demonstrates the department's commitment to creating accessible community spaces.

Festival Experience and Amenities

Autumn in the Air offers free admission and free parking for attendees. The festival runs from noon to 5:00 PM, providing an afternoon of entertainment and family activities. Visitors are welcome to bring lawn chairs and blankets for seating, though shade structures and tents are not permitted in the event area. Small coolers are allowed; large coolers are prohibited. Non-alcoholic beverages may be brought by guests, while alcoholic beverages purchased at the festival must remain in a designated perimeter.

Food and beverages are available for purchase from festival vendors, and outside food is also permitted. The festival accepts both cash and credit card payments. Bag checks are expected at entrances as a standard security measure.

The festival is organized by Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation, a department dedicated to promoting healthy lifestyles and protecting the coastal environment. The department manages 293 city park sites spanning more than 7,000 acres and operates seven community recreation centers, a municipal marina, and an athletic complex.
