MXLAN is a vibrant 3-day art and music festival celebrating young Latino culture, running March 6-8, 2026 in McAllen, Texas. Founded on the principle "These Are Our Roots, We Are the Flowers," the festival creates an immersive experience where attendees can witness contemporary Latino artists, musicians, and creators showcasing their work across multiple stages and venues at the McAllen Convention Center. The festival serves as a cultural platform highlighting the diversity of Latino artistic expression, from indie and electronic music to traditional regional Mexican sounds including cumbia and sierreña.
A flagship feature is the Breakthrough Music Stage, which provides a dedicated platform for rising Latino artists to perform and gain exposure. The festival integrates visual arts deeply into its programming through La Comunidad, an indoor community space where regional artists create live artwork throughout the festival while thousands of visitors observe the creative process. The Creator in Motion segment showcases large-scale mural painting by renowned artists, including acclaimed Oaxacan muralist Irving Cano.
The Calenda Parade, a street procession featuring giant puppets and traditional dancers alongside unexpected performers, attempts to set a world record for the Huapango dance, bringing the energy and traditions of interior Mexico to McAllen's streets. Additional attractions include the Pueblo Magico Artisan Mercado featuring authentic Mexican crafts and goods, the Gratitude Tunnel community art project where attendees share ribbons of appreciation, and evening Letter Burning Ceremonies with fire dancers.
The festival also hosts specialized ticketed experiences: Sabor & Spirits focuses on culinary celebrations with regional Mexican food and mezcal tastings, Whata Lucha features professional lucha libre wrestling with headliner Santo Jr., and El Gran Baile offers dance and entertainment. Admission is free Wednesday and Thursday-Sunday before 5pm, with $5 entry after 5pm Thursday-Sunday. MXLAN positions itself as a premier Latino cultural event in the United States, organized by the City of McAllen and supported by major sponsors including McAllen International Airport, H-E-B, and Whataburger.
