Three Decades of Independent Music Leadership

Noise Pop Festival stands as one of the oldest and most influential independent music and arts event promoters in the San Francisco Bay Area. Founded in 1993 as a single night event with a five-band bill at The Kennel Club (now The Independent), the festival has remained a cultural arbiter and community advocate within the local music scene for over three decades.

What began as a scrappy indie showcase has evolved into an 11-day, 160+ band, 80+ event, 25+ venue festival that remains a staple in the San Francisco Bay Area. The festival's trajectory mirrors the rise of independent music itself—early Noise Pop lineups featured then-emerging artists like The White Stripes, Modest Mouse, Joanna Newsom, The Flaming Lips, Courtney Barnett, Death Cab for Cutie, and Grimes, many of whom went on to define their generation's musical landscape.

Multi-Genre, Multi-Venue Experience

Unlike festivals confined to specific grounds, Noise Pop creates a city-wide celebration where attendees hop between venues—the "old fashioned way" of discovering music. Badges grant access to all shows, parties, and happy hours throughout the week, allowing music fans to explore new artists and nightlife across San Francisco's diverse neighborhoods and venues. The curated lineups deliberately bring together music across genres: indie rock, electronic, jazz, hip-hop, and experimental forms coexist on the same festival.

The 2026 lineup spans this diversity with artists including vs self, Knumears, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, TOBACCO, Mux Mool, and Marie Davidson, alongside Bay Area fixtures like Chime School and Dog Eyes. The festival partnerships with venues like Rickshaw Stop, Great American Music Hall, Gray Area, August Hall, and Bottom of the Hill ensure quality presentation across the city.

Community and Industry Institution

Noise Pop Industries, the producing entity, goes beyond the festival itself. It partners with institutions like the California Academy of Sciences, KQED, and the Mill Valley Chamber of Commerce to produce cultural events. The organization also operates DoTheBay, the Bay Area's leading local nightlife and entertainment guide, helping hundreds of thousands discover what's happening culturally across the region. For over 30 years, Noise Pop has maintained its commitment: championing independent artists, supporting emerging voices, and celebrating the Bay Area's enduring indie music legacy.
