Old West End Festival: Celebrating Toledo's Historic Architecture
The Old West End Festival celebrates one of the largest and most impressive collections of Victorian, Edwardian, and Arts and Crafts homes in the United States. The neighborhood showcases architectural styles popular around the turn of the 20th century, spanning roughly from Monroe Street to Cherry Street and from the train tracks west of Detroit Avenue to Collingwood Boulevard. The festival is organized by the Old West End Association, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to preservation and community engagement.
Festival Experience
As a two-day event, the 53rd Old West End Festival brings the historic neighborhood to life with live music performances, multiple food markets, and a beer garden. The festival features the King Wamba Carnival Parade on Saturday morning, a traditional centerpiece that adds pageantry and celebration to the weekend. Historic house tours offer visitors the opportunity to explore the architectural treasures within the district, while the marketplace provides local shopping and vendors. Children's activities and a 5K run round out the diverse programming.
The Historic District
The Old West End represents a significant concentration of American residential architecture from the late 1800s through early 1900s. The neighborhood attracts visitors interested in architectural history, heritage preservation, and community-driven cultural events. The festival serves as both a celebration of the neighborhood's heritage and a fundraiser supporting ongoing preservation efforts through the Old West End Association.
