Miami's Electronic Music Institution

Ultra Music Festival is the world's premier electronic music festival, held each spring at Miami's iconic Bayfront Park. Its 2026 edition—the 26th—took place March 27–29, 2026, drawing 165,000 attendees from more than 100 countries and reaching a record 42.5 million viewers worldwide through its #ULTRALIVE livestream. Ultra ranks No. 4 on DJ Mag's 2026 Top 100 Festivals—behind only Tomorrowland, EDC Las Vegas and Untold—and its parent, Ultra Worldwide, became the first festival brand recognized on the list across all six inhabited continents.

History

Founded in 1999, Ultra grew from a beachside event into a global institution, expanding to a three-day format in 2011. Its long run at Bayfront Park has not been without friction: after downtown residents' noise complaints, the festival briefly relocated to Virginia Key in 2019 before returning the next year. In April 2026, Miami city commissioners approved a new 20-year agreement keeping Ultra at Bayfront Park (with added noise conditions), even as the Downtown Neighbors Alliance filed a lawsuit alleging the festival breached a 2021 noise settlement—a dispute Ultra has said it will "vigorously defend."

The 2026 Edition

The 2026 festival spanned multiple stages, anchored by the Main Stage and the RESISTANCE Megastructure, the festival's immersive home for techno. Standout moments included Swedish House Mafia's closing "festival within a festival" (with a rare Eric Prydz back-to-back and an Avicii tribute), Bizarrap's Main Stage debut featuring surprise guests Daddy Yankee and Skrillex, DJ Snake bringing out J Balvin, and Armin van Buuren celebrating 25 years of his A State of Trance brand. Other performers included Major Lazer, Martin Garrix, Alesso, John Summit and ZHU. Recognizing the festival's cultural and economic impact, Miami-Dade County proclaimed March 28 "Ultra Music Festival Day."

Bayfront Park as Venue

The waterfront location at Bayfront Park provides a striking downtown-skyline backdrop for the festival's elaborate stage designs and cutting-edge visual production, making Ultra not just an audio experience but a comprehensive artistic and technical showcase of electronic music culture. The 2027 edition is set for March 26–28 at the same venue.
