Celebrating Legacy and Resilience in Tulsa

The Black Wall Street Legacy Festival stands as an annual tribute to the historic Greenwood District in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and the enduring spirit of its community. Now in its sixth year, the multi-day festival runs Friday through Monday over the weekend of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre anniversary—in 2026 concluding June 1 with a day of observance marking 105 years since the massacre, and coinciding with the 120th anniversary of Greenwood's founding. Organized by Tiffany Crutcher and the Terence Crutcher Foundation and drawing roughly 5,000 attendees, the festival brings together music, food, knowledge, and celebration to honor Black entrepreneurship, cultural heritage, and the path toward reconciliation. All events are free and open to the public.

The Festival Experience

At the heart of the festival lies the Legacy Main Stage, hosting major musical performances that span R&B, hip-hop, gospel, and jazz. For 2026, Grammy Award-winning artist Fantasia headlines the event. Described as moving from American Idol champion to Broadway star to Golden Globe-nominated film actress, Fantasia has earned a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and was named one of Time's 100 Most Influential People. The festival promises a night of music, power, and liberation.

Beyond the main stage, the African Street Festival transforms Greenwood Avenue into a vibrant marketplace. Dozens of food trucks and artisan vendors celebrate diaspora traditions and Black entrepreneurship, offering everything from jerk chicken to jollof, funnel cakes to fresh lemonade.

Dialogue and Truth-Telling

The festival includes a Symposium—a series of powerful panels and discussions on racial justice, reparations, and the unfinished work of reconciliation. Scholars, activists, survivors, and descendants gather to examine the past. Notably, the symposium is free and open to all, as the festival states that truth-telling is a community responsibility. The 2026 Symposium was hosted by the Greenwood Trust—a fund established in 2025 by Tulsa Mayor Monroe Nichols targeting $105 million to advance Greenwood's economic recovery—with panelists including UNCF president Dr. Michael L. Lomax, and the festival premiered the Build in Tulsa 1921 Awards. Each year opens with the Greenwood 120 Awards Gala; 2026 recipients of the “We Are Greenwood” honor included investor John W. Rogers Jr. (Ariel Investments), Angela Rye, and Bryan Stevenson.

Community at Its Center

The weekend is woven through with community-led gatherings and Community Happenings—a Legacy Walk & Wellness Experience through the Greenwood District, Greenwood Walking Tours, the Young, Gifted & On Greenwood Youth Zone, the “We Are The People” Tour led by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Karen Hunter, a Sunday Soil Collection Ceremony and Standpipe Hill remembrance honoring massacre victims, a community kickball game at ONEOK Field, a worship service, and a candlelight vigil at the Greenwood Rising history center—reminding attendees that legacy is lived, not just commemorated. The festival actively invites participation through volunteer sign-ups, vendor applications for the African Street Festival, sponsorship opportunities, and donations—all framed as ways to spread truth, inspire hope, and extend tradition.
