Winter Celebration Meets Community Art in Cleveland

Brite Winter represents a unique approach to winter festivals in the industrial Midwest. Founded over 15 years ago by Emily Hornack and Jimmy Harris, the festival operates on a simple but powerful premise: celebrate winter rather than endure it. Since its inception, Brite Winter has welcomed tens of thousands of guests across multiple Cleveland locations, building a reputation as a premier cultural event between New Year's Eve and St. Patrick's Day.

What Makes Brite Winter Special

Unlike commercial music festivals, Brite Winter is organized by Brite Cleveland, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit committed to bringing together people "of all ages, incomes, and backgrounds." The festival emphasizes accessibility—admission is free or low-cost—and community participation as core values. The 2026 edition moves to the Waterloo Arts District, with the festival footprint centering at the corner of Waterloo and East 156th Street and spanning two blocks.

The festival features six stages with live music performances spanning pop-rock, hip-hop, jazz, and Americana genres. Beyond music, Brite Winter delivers interactive art installations, fire performances (a signature element of the festival), food vendors, games, and activities designed for all ages. This multifaceted programming reflects the festival's commitment to celebrating "northeast Ohio's kick ass arts and culture."

The Winter Context

Brite Winter addresses a cultural reality: winter in Cleveland and Northeast Ohio is long, dark, and cold. Historical temperature ranges documented by the festival show winter conditions from 8°F to 69°F. Rather than treating this season as something to survive, Brite Winter positions winter as a time for community, creativity, and celebration. The festival lineup includes established sponsors and partners like the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Ohio Arts Council, Cleveland Foundation, and local venues like Beachland Ballroom.

For visitors and locals alike, Brite Winter offers a visceral winter experience grounded in live performance and participatory art—a celebration that transforms the season into an opportunity for connection.
