An Evening Under the Stars in Kelowna

Opera Kelowna brings professional opera to the summer evening with Opera Under the Stars, a community concert set on the lawn of UBC Okanagan's Central Courtyard. The event invites attendees to settle in with blankets or festival chairs for an outdoor performance by a quartet of professional opera singers, blending favorite operatic selections with music from other genres and unexpected surprises.

The experience emphasizes accessibility and relaxation: site opens at 6:30 PM with performances beginning at 8:00 PM, running just over an hour. Guests welcome to bring their own picnic and beverages (no outside alcohol permitted). For those preferring catering, Station Hospitality Group offers pre-orderable expanded picnic boxes featuring spreads, cheese selections, bread, fruit, crackers, pickled vegetables, and two spritzers. Free parking becomes available across campus at 6:00 PM, with golf cart transport available from select lots for those needing accessibility assistance.

The OPUS Elevated Experience

An optional premium tier begins at 6:45 PM at the Faculty of Creative and Critical Studies building, featuring a pre-concert reception with community leaders, wines from Jason Parkes Customs, and hors d'oeuvres from Chef Slavo Grunwald at Sheraton Four Points by Marriott. Ticket holders receive escort to reserved, chaired seating for the main performance.

The Performers

The program features Canadian mezzo soprano Stephanie Tritchew, soprano Kelly Coubrough, tenor Jonathan Gagné, baritone Jason Cook, and conductor/vocalist Diane Speirs. Washroom facilities are available throughout the evening in Arts and Admin buildings. Ticket registration opens May 28, 2026.
