A Legacy of Conjunto Music Celebration

The Tejano Conjunto Festival stands as the definitive celebration of conjunto music, a distinctly South Texas musical tradition that blends Mexican folk influences with accordion-driven rhythms. Founded and directed by Juan Tejeda, the festival has grown over four decades to become the longest-running event devoted exclusively to this genre in the United States.

The 44th annual Tejano Conjunto Festival, presented by the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center, demonstrates the enduring vitality of conjunto music and its cultural significance to Texas communities. Held in San Antonio—the heart of the South Texas music region—the festival draws approximately 10,000 attendees annually, including musicians, dancers, and music enthusiasts from across North America, Latin America, Europe, and Asia, reflecting conjunto's international reach and cultural relevance.

The Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center

The Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center emerged roughly 36 years ago when Chicano artists established the Performance Artists' Nucleus (PAN) to secure municipal funding and sustain their cultural heritage. Over decades, GCAC has evolved into a multidisciplinary institution spanning six artistic disciplines. The organization was among the first Chicano organizations to collaborate with Mexican artists and cultural institutions while commissioning new works. GCAC has discovered and promoted most major Latino visual artists, filmmakers, playwrights, and musicians across the United States, establishing itself as a national model for community-based Latino arts institutions.

The 2026 Festival

The 2026 Tejano Conjunto Festival runs May 15-17 at Rosedale Park (303 Dartmouth Street) in San Antonio, with a seniors dance pre-event on Thursday, May 14 at the Royal Palace Ballroom. The festival features established conjunto legends and emerging talent, showcasing the genre's ongoing evolution and appeal to new generations. A special feature honors the late Flaco Jiménez, a towering figure in accordion and Tejano music, with Sunday evening performances by Grammy-winning Los Texmaniacs and international accordionists paying tribute to his legacy. The festival lineup spans 40+ acts across three days, including Jessie Perez y Sus Compadres, Los Tellez, Ruben De La Cruz Y Su Conjunto, Los Garcia Brothers, Da Krazy Pimpz, Ricky Naranjo Y Los Gamblers, and many others representing both traditional and contemporary conjunto approaches.
