Thirteen Years of Community Music on South Minneapolis Porches
Powderhorn Porchfest is a distinctive music festival that reimagines what a neighborhood celebration can be. For thirteen consecutive years, this South Minneapolis event has converted residential front porches into intimate performance venues, creating a uniquely accessible and community-centered festival experience. Located on 17th Avenue South between 32nd and 34th Street, the festival transforms two city blocks into a vibrant cultural hub.
Three Stages, Three Curators, Multiple Genres
The 2026 edition features three separate stages, each curated by different community members and local personalities. Stage One at 3201 17th Avenue South, curated by Bri Becker, features artists spanning diverse genres with iLLism as the headliner. Stage Two at 3232 17th Avenue South, curated by Sho Kramer-LaBorde, presents DJ-driven performances. Stage Three at 3346 17th Avenue South, curated by KRSM Radio, showcases local talent with emphasis on soul and positive vibes.
The festival's musical palette spans Hip Hop, R&B, Surf-Psychedelic-Punk, Country, Americana, Singer-Songwriter, Latin Folk, Alternative, Reggae Funk, Pop, and Jazz Fusion. Headliner iLLism is a Minneapolis duo known for blending hip-hop, soul, and R&B with elements of the Minneapolis Sound.
Community-Centered Festival Experience
Beyond the music, Powderhorn Porchfest creates a complete community gathering. The festival features Minneapolis food trucks, a craft beer garden, and family-friendly activities. Running from 4 PM to 10 PM, the event welcomes families during afternoon hours before transitioning to an adult-oriented evening celebration. As a free festival organized by the Powderhorn Neighborhood Association—a 42-year-old nonprofit—Porchfest embodies principles of accessibility and community engagement. Proceeds support both the current event and future iterations, making attendance a form of community investment.
The festival's success depends on local curation and grassroots participation. Each stage curator brings their own artistic vision and connections, ensuring the lineup reflects diverse musical perspectives and emerging talent. This community-driven approach has made Powderhorn Porchfest a beloved institution within South Minneapolis, known for discovering new artists and celebrating musicians in an intimate, accessible neighborhood setting.
