The Tucson Folk Festival stands as one of the country's longest-running and largest free music festivals, a volunteer-operated, member-supported 501(c)(3) nonprofit established in 1986. Founded by the Tucson Kitchen Musicians Association, the festival has become a cornerstone of Tucson's cultural calendar, drawing over 20,000 fans annually to downtown to celebrate American folk traditions in all their diverse forms.

Across six outdoor stages, the festival features over 150 live performances spanning folk, bluegrass, blues, country, Celtic, mariachi, zydeco, Americana, and roots music. Major headliners have included Tom Rush, whose legendary status in American folk music draws audiences eager to connect with foundational voices in the genre. The festival's musical scope extends beyond traditional folk, encompassing singer-songwriters, Latin influences, and world music traditions that reflect Tucson's diverse cultural landscape.

Beyond performances, the festival emphasizes music education and community participation. Workshops offer musicians and enthusiasts opportunities to deepen their craft and understanding of different traditions. Song circles provide informal gathering spaces for attendees to connect and share musical experiences. The festival also features a songwriting competition that supports emerging artists. With a focus on accessibility, the festival remains free and family-friendly, making it an entry point for new listeners and a celebration for longtime folk music devotees.
